The training to become an Alexander Technique teacher is a profoundly enriching process that is centered on the trainee’s individual development as the groundwork for their future teaching. Along the training program, future teachers experience significant transformations in their use, developing a more efficient, balanced and conscious use of themselves.

The program is centered on the study and application of the essential principles of the Alexander Technique:

  • Primary control

  • Inhibition

  • Direction

  • Development of reliable sensory appreciation

  • The relation between means and ends (means-whereby)

This focus allows students to progressively integrate the Alexander work into their everyday lives, improving their response capacity to the daily stimuli with lesser tension and greater freedom. The development of a refined use of self is key for the transmission of the Technique and to acquire the delicate hands-on abilities characteristic of Alexander teaching.

Teaching Methodology

The teacher training follows the original procedures developed by F. M. Alexander, recognized by the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT) in the United Kingdom, as the most reliable method to preserve the essence of the work. The process is highly practical: the Technique’s principles are introduced from the beginning and are continuously reviewed as each student’s comprehension and skill develop.

Attention on each student is highly personalized, with a ratio of five or six students per teacher, which guarantees a close guidance. The work is led by verbal instructions and hands-on contact, orienting the student in their own process of exploration and adjustments.

Adding to the practical work, the study plan includes:

  • Reading and analysis of F. M. Alexander’s books

  • Study of the fundamentals of anatomy

  • Activity-specific applications of the Alexander Technique

Enrollment pre-requisites

Aspiring students should have taken Alexander Technique individual lessons and must show a genuine motivation to work on themselves. Before beginning the training program, aspirants must take individual lessons with the training director and schedule a guided visit of the school.

The school’s faculty is composed of the program director and certified teachers.
